Three Things I Learned from Reading Cherry by Mary Karr
Penguin Books, $14, ISBN 0-670-89274-2, 2000
1. Karr did a lot of hallucinogenic drugs in her teens, and her poetry background serves her well when describing trips.
2. A visit to a local strip club and encounter with the owner, talent, and bar regulars will have you question humanity.
3. As the author of other hit autobiographical books (Lit and The Liars' Club), I wonder if there is any part of Karr's life not ripe for memoir.
